On Wednesday, April 14, 3 choirs, 2 orchestras, and the 2 Blue Valley West Bands attended the State Large
Group Festival. This is a state wide festival where all performing arts groups perform for judges. All judges are
told that on a rating scale of 1-5, the score of 1 is reserved only for those groups with an outstanding
performance. Not only did all of the groups from West receive overall 1st Division ratings, but the Concert and
Symphonic Bands received straight ones from all of their judges. This is a testament to the work the students
have been doing throughout the year.

Concert Band Performed:
Variations on "Scarborough Fair" by Calvin Custer and Circus Bee by Henry Fillmore/ arr. by Calvin Custer

Symphonic Band Performed:
Rocky Point Holiday by Ron Nelson and Arabesque by Samuel Hazo

Brass Players Getting Braces?
.
.
Check with your Doctor.  This new method for braces might be a better alternative for your brass playing.
Traditional braces often cause performance problems for high brass players.  Check this website to see if
this option could work for you.

Red and Silver Brigade represent the state of Kansas in the 2010 London New Year's Parade
Blue Valley West has was selected as one of only seven American Bands to perform in the prestigious
London New Year's Day Parade. The band will traveled from December 26, 2009 to January 2, 2010.
Students toured London, gave a sold out concert performance in St. Augestine's Church, the "Cathedral of the
North," and performed in the parade. This is a huge honor for the Red and Silver Brigade and one that none
of the students will ever forget. The band was also very fortunate to be visited by the Lord Mayor herself on
February 23, 2009. She was greeted by a huge audience and was given a tour of Blue Valley West by the
drum majors. All of the dignitaries that attended the event were also treated to a concert featuring the
Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. The band was featured on the NBC news broadcast, in the Kansas City
Star, and in the Kansas City Sun. Please click the London link above for more information.
