Congratulations to the BVW Winter Guard on a solid first performance at their MCCGA Competition this past Saturday! The guard placed 1st in their class in a strong showing. Pep Band is off to a great start – make sure to check your assigned nights and communicate any schedule questions via email.
 
 
KMEA Performance – Wind Ensemble
Our BVW Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at the KMEA State Convention in February! Our performance is on Friday, February 24, at 11:10 AM.

Basketball Pep Band
All band students participate in pep band during the Spring semester. Each member has 3 nights (which is 5 games – 1 single and 2 double headers.) Assignments can be adjusted as needed to accommodate other activity schedules, so long as those potential conflicts are discussed with Mr. Love well in advance – at least 2 weeks of the date. KMEA Performance – Wind Ensemble
Our BVW Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at the KMEA State Convention in February! Our performance is on Friday, February 24, at 11:10 AM. A detailed schedule will be provided to members shortly, but we will leave in the early morning for Wichita on Charter Bus and return in the early evening to Overland Park. Parents and family members are welcome to attend our performance in Wichita. We will also be presenting a send-off concert on Tuesday, February 21 in the BVW PAC at 8 PM following the Symphonic Band and 7th Grade Band Side by Side Concert.
 
Enrollment
Current West Students should enroll in Marching Band for Fall and their current band course (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band) for spring. Color Guard should enroll in Freshman Band. That all said, as long as a band course is listed in your student’s course selections we will get them into the correct class! As always, if students have questions regarding band placements or course offerings please visit with a director. We are happy to assist students in navigating the school schedule to ensure they can continue playing in band while pursuing a range of interests at West! Our enrollment brochure can be found HERE. It is primarily targeted towards rising 9th grade students, but the information applies to all.

​Several events this week! Thank you Wind Ensemble for a great mini-camp last night and boost to our KMEA Prep! Instruments shipped to London will be delivered on Tuesday, January 17 during the school day.
 
5th Grade Try-It Night
This Wednesday, from 6-8:30 PM we are hosting a try-it night for 5th grade students in our area. This is a fun and important recruiting event. High School band members are welcome to come assist by demonstrating instruments and helping 5th grade students learn how to hold instruments and make sounds! West Students need to wear their red polo and arrive by 5:30 PM for some quick instructions and training. Sign-up in the Band App.
 
Side by Side Concert
Our first Side by Side Concert is on Thursday, January 19 at 7 PM in the PAC and features the Wind Ensemble and 8th Grade Bands from Lakewood and Pleasant Ridge. Concert Black Attire. This is a shorter concert, but is an opportunity to present our program to 8th grade parents and students.
 
John Philip Sousa Honor Band
Held in Lawrence the weekend of January 20-21. Selected students should receive schedules and other information via email.
