Solo & Ensemble Assistance
The KSHSAA Regional Solo & Ensemble festival is hosted at Olathe South HS and serves over 1000 student performances in one day. All participating schools are asked to provide parent volunteers from among their band, choir, and orchestra programs to make this event a successful experience for all involved. You do not have to have a student performing to help, and if your student is playing, you will absolutely be able to watch them! Pre-Festival Concert
Thursday, March 30 at 7 PM in the PAC. This concert will feature Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble performing music slated for our Spring Festivals. We will also be taking our yearbook photo prior to the performance. All students need to arrive by 6:15 PM dressed in concert black.
 
After School Percussion Help
Mr. Westcott will be at BVW after school from 2:45-4:00 on the below dates. You can use this time to practice for Solo & Ensemble and Marching Percussion Auditions, and he'll be available if you need help. No appointment necessary!

District Music Festivals
Wind Ensemble – Wednesday, April 12 and Symphonic Band – Thursday, April 13. These events are part of our preparation for the State Music Festival later in April. On each day, students need to arrive at the band room no later than 6:00 AM to load the bus. Continued driver shortages require early leave times for events unfortunately. Performances begin after 7 at Blue Valley SW HS. These events take place during our regularly scheduled class. Additional details provided in the coming week.
 
Uniform will be red polo shirts with DARK pants – black or dark jeans please.

The 4th quarter of the year is always somewhat of a “sprint” for the band program, in some ways busier than we are even in the height of marching season with festivals and other events. That said, not every event involves every student, so please make sure you are checking details for our upcoming events.
 
 
 
Solo & Ensemble Festival
A reminder that the KSHSAA Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival is held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Olathe South HS. Those who registered via our form will be officially registered through KSHSAA and charged the $12 entry fee via your Booster Account.

Reminder that Leadership Applications are due on Wednesday, March 22.

Big Band
We are so excited by the tremendous response we received from students to participate in our Big Band rehearsals and performances. Our first rehearsal will be this Tuesday, March 21 from 7:30 – 8:30 AM. Music will be distributed at our first rehearsal.

​Spring Break is right around the corner! While we have a relatively light schedule this week, when we return from break we hit the ground running with contest and festival season!
 
Solo & Ensemble Festival
The KSHSAA Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival is held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Olathe South HS. This is a terrific opportunity for students to learn and grow musically! Please note the following. Interested students must complete our internal registration form no later than March 9! Students with questions should visit with a director prior to registering.

Leadership
Those interested in serving in a leadership position for the 2023 Red & Silver Brigade marching season need to attend an informational meeting. There are two options for the meeting:
AST (after 3rd block) on Wednesday, March 8 OR AST (PM – after Advisory) on Thursday, March 9. Attendance is mandatory in order to receive the Leadership Audition Packet.
 
We are very excited about the first steps towards our next marching season and look forward to seeing you at one of the meetings!
 
Big Band
One of the challenges our program has faced following COVID is the ability to put together a full Jazz Big Band during the class hour. A full jazz ensemble is a FUN and IMPORTANT component of any band program, and we KNOW that we have a number of students who would love to experience playing Jazz, but lack schedule room for a full semester class.
 
This spring we are offering a Big Band experience open to our Jazz Ensemble class members PLUS any additional students who would like to participate. To participate, students must commit to 7 morning rehearsals and a performance at the KCKCC Jazz Festival in April and Nacho Jazz concert in May. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:
 
Tuesdays, beginning March 21 and running through May 2 from 7:30 – 8:30 AM. Interested students should visit with Mr. Love or Mr. Ramsey. Music will be available before spring break This will be a fun experience and ANYONE is welcome!
