Congratulations to our percussionists on a successful week of camp and thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with the Car Wash on Saturday! Full Band Camp begins on Monday for all band and guard members! Please check details below.
Summer Band Camp Full Band Camp: August 1 – 5 and August 9, 11, and 13. Please remember that attendance at all rehearsals, camps, and performances is required of all band members, and that any schedule conflicts need to be communicated via email to Mr. Love as early as possible. Band Camp / Fall Sports Conditionings We are thrilled that so many of our band students take the opportunity to also participate in the many other athletic and activity offerings available at West. While official sports practices do not begin until August 15, many sports have ongoing optional conditioning sessions. Our coaches and band staff work well together to facilitate schedule compromises whenever schedule conflicts occur. Traditionally band students have been excused from athletic conditioning and expected to attend band camp during camp week as this is a unique and critical time for getting the band prepared for the year. There are also times exceptions need to be made to accommodate student / program needs. As always, any questions about schedules and attendance should be addressed to Mr. Love via email in advance. Spirit Days Throughout camp we host a variety of competitions, including spirit days. Show your fun side and help your section earn points! Details shared during camp as well. Monday – West Colors (as always for rehearsal) Tuesday – Sports Day – dress like your favorite sport or support your favorite team Wednesday – Family Vacation Day Thursday – Favorite character day Friday – WEST day – dress for a pep assembly – show your West Side Pride! Camp Reminders Below are reminders for camp framed in the context of our program expectations to help set both parents and students up for a successful experience: Be Punctual - Sessions BEGIN at 7 AM each day. Arrive early enough to be set-up with equipment so we can start on time at 7. Park on outside the barriers on the band lot or in student parking. Do NOT park in teacher parking along the North side of the building. Drop-off is in the bus loop outside the band door. Be prepared - Wear tennis shoes with socks; shorts or athletic leggings; and a BVW colored t-shirt. Guard will wear all-black as is tradition. Bring water and don’t forget your sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses. Bring a sack lunch or you may walk / drive to any of the area restaurants during our break. And of course, have your instrument and binder at every session! Be present – We can’t learn and progress if we aren’t physically present and mentally engaged in every rehearsal. That is why communicating conflicts in advance is essential so that we can make plans to help everyone keep moving forward! Read the weekly email update and check out reminders on the band app. Everyone has a responsibility to keep themselves informed of upcoming announcements and events. Be purposeful – Camp always takes a physical and mental adjustment as we get back into performance shape. No matter how easy or challenging you may find the activities, giving your best effort each rep will help US get better, and will ensure we ALL have FUN! Be proud – The way we handle ourselves OFF the field is equally important. We have fantastic parent volunteers and school staff around – please and thank-you go a long way! Pick up after we finish an activity or rehearsal – trash, stands, chairs, etc are everyone’s responsibility. Take care of your instrument and equipment – use your case and locker appropriately and keep track of your stuff!
