We hope everyone enjoyed the Sweetheart week and those that attended the dance had a great time! A busy week of rehearsals lies ahead. Please see the note below.
Program Expectations We wanted to take a moment to address an area of concern related to our program expectations. There are 5 essential expectations set forth for all our rehearsals and performances, and those are that we are Punctual, Prepared, Present, Purposeful, and Proud in all we do. Unfortunately, we continue to have difficulty with meeting that very first expectation, being Punctual, specifically with Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band rehearsals. Wind Ensemble rehearsals begin at 7:40 am, and Symphonic Band at 8:40 am on block days. As stated in our handbook, students must be present in their seat, with their instrument and all equipment ready so that we may begin rehearsal at those times. We are consistently losing 6-8 minutes of rehearsal each class due to multiple tardies and lack of attention to this area. We understand that the traffic situation outside of West can be problematic, however, with a little advanced preparation and perhaps leaving home a few minutes earlier, students can easily meet this critical expectation. For our program to take full advantage of the special performance opportunities we have, such as playing at our state convention; and if we are to continue setting a high standard of performance and earning top rating and rankings at festivals, then we must be consistent in how we rehearse. A musical ensemble relies on the contributions of each member to be successful, and when members are late, important parts are missing; and our directors and supplemental staff have a difficult time getting everything taught and rehearsed that we need to accomplish. We appreciate your attention to this area and hope to see all our members consistently meet this first and very important rehearsal and performance expectation.
