Concert Ensembles
The Blue Valley West Band Program consists of three curricular concert ensembles that meet year-round and form the core of our band program. Any student in grades 9-12 at Blue Valley West with prior experience playing a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument is welcome to join. Students without experience are also welcome to join, but should first speak with an instructor to discuss options. Each spring band students in grades 8 - 11 participate in a placement hearing that considers each student's musical development; prior band experience; and ensemble instrumentation to help determine which ensemble provides an appropriate balance of musical challenge and fulfillment. In addition to performing at concerts and festivals, students are encouraged to further develop their musicianship through opportunities such as private lessons, honor bands, and solo and ensemble festivals.
Concert Band is the third and largest concert ensemble at West. Most students begin their band experience at West in Concert Band. Students perform intermediate level band repertoire while continuing to develop fundamental musical skills. Concert Band meets each spring in 6th Block and performs at 3-4 concerts each year plus an adjudicated music festival. Students have the option to participate in various honor bands and solo and ensemble festivals.
